Q: I want to store my Animotica project files on an external hard drive to save space on my PC. Is this possible? How can I do this?
Yes, you can move Animotica projects to an external drive, but there are important things you should know about how this affects your editing workflow:
When actively working on a project, we strongly recommend keeping all project files on your PC's hard drive (typically in C:/Documents/Animotica/Projects). This includes:
- Your Animotica project file
- All videos, photos, and music used in the project
- Any other media assets
Here's why: If you store project files on an external drive while editing, you'll face these challenges:
- You'll see a "link files" pop-up message every time you open the project
- You won't be able to continue editing unless you connect the external drive and relink the files
- Your editing workflow will be frequently interrupted
When should you move projects to an external drive? The best time to move projects to external storage is:
- When you're done editing but want to save the project for future reference
- When you need to free up space on your PC hard drive
- When you want to archive completed projects
Our recommendation: Keep projects on your PC hard drive while actively editing. Once you're finished or taking a long break from the project, then move the entire project folder (including all media files) to your external drive for storage.
Remember: If you later need to edit a project stored on an external drive, consider moving it back to your PC hard drive for a smoother editing experience.
